Modbus is an open protocol which is in use by many manufacturers of industrial
controls. Parts of this document, particularly those concerning connection of the LC
Module to the field device(s), are written in generic terms. Therefore, the user of the
LC/Modbus Interface must consult the manufacturer’s documentation for the field
device in order to design an appropriate cable and to limit the configuration to those
Modbus functions the device supports.

This document is organized into the following sections:
• Section 1. Introduction provides an overview of the Ovation LC/Modbus
Interface and lists additional manuals that might be helpful to the user.
• Section 2. Hardware Configuration describes the hardware and cabling
required for the Interface.
